TOTS IN MOTION
This program was developed for young children as a stepping stone to the Music & Movement program. AGES: 2.5 - 3yrs CLASS LENGTH: 30 minutes
ZUMBA FITNESS
Zumba is a Latin-Inspired, fitness class that incorporates Latin and International music and dance movements, which creates a dynamic, exciting and effective fitness system. Zumba is a cardio-based workout that will target the entire body . It is designed for everybody. Participants of any age, background or fitness level can start to Zumba right away. LYRICAL
Emotion, Expression, Interpretation - Spread your artistic wings. Blending Ballet and Jazz, you will explore your own choreography and discover new ways to express yourself through music, poetry and composition.
BOYS FUNK
Upbeat, Energetic & Funky - this class will help develope coordination. strength, discipline and an appreciation for dance for young boys ages 5-10yrs.
MODERN CONTEMPORARY
Derived from principles of a number of different styles, including Graham-based technique, release technique, contact dance, and Bartenieff Fundamentals. The focus is on core strength, range of motion, and an all-around body workout that leaves you feeling energized. This is an exciting new class, great for recreational and serious dancers, to increase fitness and compliment other dance styles! AGES:12 & Up CLASS LENGTH: 1 hour
BELLY DANCE
Belly dance is a highly disciplined and respectable art form celebrating feminine energy, the natural movements and the glorious diversity of the female form. Algeria being at the cross-road of African, Arabic, Andalusian and Berber cultures, Dounia's style in belly dancing carries this diversity and nurtures it. Dounia is also part of a generation of North Africans that were exposed to rock and roll, reggae, classical music... as well as to their own traditional music. Dounia uses music of artists from this generation that have incorporated these influences and are proud of carrying the message that diversity is a celebration of life itself. AGES: 13 & Up CLASS LENGTH: 1 hours
BREAKING
The dance that laid the foundation for what Hip Hop is today. Learn to express your own personal style with the beat-driven top-rock, the intricate ground work and freezes, and the explosive moves that build strength, balance, and coordination. AGES: 7 - Adult
FLAMENCO
An ancient form of music, singing, and dancing which contains the distilled experience of the gypsy (Roma) people. Begin with learning the basics in palmas (clapping), taconeo (footwork), marcaje (marking steps) and arm/upper body/hand movements. All this is done in relation to the traditional songs and rhythms, so that students understand how the dancing relates to the music and can take the first steps toward improvising. Advance from Tangos & Sevillanas to Guajira, Bulerias, Tientos and more. AGES: 10 - adult CLASS LENGTH: 1 hour
TAP
Lets you use your body as a rhythmic instrument. With an emphasis on fancy footwork and sound, tap develops agility, coordination, musicality, and stylized movement. AGES: 5 - adult CLASS LENGTH: 40 minutes - 1 hour
JAZZ
Energetic, exhilarating, up-tempo, and an excellent body conditioner. It blends popular music and current dance trends with the polish and technique of performance dance. AGES: 5 - adult CLASS LENGTH: 40 min- 1 hour
BALLET / POINTE
Classical training develops strength, flexibility, correct posture, coordination, and overall grace. This carefully designed program benefits the recreational as well as the professional oriented student. AGES: 5 - Adult CLASS LENGTH: 40 minutes - 1.5 hour
LATIN JAZZ
Energetic, uptempo with a Latin twist...have fun learing combinations, incorporating Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba and many other Latin dance steps, without a partner. This is the perfect workout class for male or females who have always wanted to learn latin dances but could never find a partner to learn them with. AGES: 12 & Up CLASS LENGTH: 1 hour
HIP HOP
Evolved from freestyle street jam dancing and is seen on many music videos. It's fun, easy to learn and a great workout. Classes include a warm-up, a breakdown of the latest moves, and the development of complete routines. AGES: 10 - Adult CLASS LENGTH: 1 hour
STEP DANCE/HIGHLAND
Traditional dance similar to Stomp and Irish Step incorporating traditional music as well as non traditional music to Jig, Reel and Clog to.
POWER SCULPT
Functional resistance/strength training incorporating a stability ball, thera-band and other props combined with pilates/yoga techniques. A fantastic full body workout... All fitness levels welcome.
BALLROOM & LATIN AMERICAN
Jive, Quick & Slow Waltz, Social & Slow Foxtrot, Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Quickstep, Paso Doble, Tango & Viennese Waltz. These fun and popular dances for couples will give you the confidence and grace on the dance floor you need to be the center of attention at weddings and other social events. CLASS LENGTH: 1 hour. Priavte lessons available; individual, couples and groups.
MUSIC & MOVEMENT
Children's creativity and imagination will flourish in this class. It will enhance social interaction and individual development skills. This class is an introduction to dance using basic dance steps to develop motor skills and spatial awareness. AGES: 3 - 4 years CLASS LENGTH: 40 minutes
HATHA FLOW
Develops flexibility and core strength for the body and mind using breathing exercises, Ashtang style sun salutations, traditional Hatha yoga poses, ending with relaxation and meditation. Postures move into a flow. Prerequisite: Previous yoga or dance experience needed or to be physically active. CLASS LENGTH: 1.5 hours
IYENGAR YOGA
Classes are based on the Iyengar Method and focus on alignment, strength and flexibility. Classes are gentle and noncompetitive with students feeling energized and refreshed upon completion. Men and women of all ages welcome. CLASS LENGTH: 1.5 hours
I.S.T.D. EXAM CLASSES
For students who love to perform and dance. The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing method operates on a very high standardized grading system. Once the syllabus for the particular grade is learned and perfected, the student is then entered for the exam which is adjudicated by an I.S.T.D. examiner. The student is then graded and all successful candidates are awarded a certificate. The goal is to develop a technically and rhythmically strong dancer with love of performance and dance. CLASSES AVAILABLE: Modern Theater (Primary to Advanced), Tap (Pre-Primary to Advanced), Jazz Awards (Bronze to Gold), and Associate preparation. AGES: 5 and up CLASS LENGTH: 1 hour to 1.5 Hours
PRIVATE LESSON
JDD offers private lessons in most of the discipline we offer.
Reason to take private lesson:
1. Couples getting married...surpirse your family and guests with a Ballroom or Latin American number as your first dance.
2. Are you a shift worker and can't make it to regular week to week classes? Private lessons can be booked at your convenience.
3. Skaters, Gymnasts, Performers...need to prepare a rountine for a competition or show? Have one of our instructors choreograph it for you.
4. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun...learn to grove it out to your favorite dance songs with a group of friends before your next trip South.
5. Need extra time on something specific that you've been working on in class
